9TH GRADERS

For a prospective student member, joining Post 53 begins by expressing interest in membership during the final year of middle school (8th Grade). Current Posties visit the middle school and provide information on Post membership to students interested. Interested young adults take a First Aid class either in the Spring (June/July) prior to their freshman year or the Fall (September/October) once they are in Darien High School.

ADULTS

Adult volunteers undertake the same extensive training as the young adults including the EMT certification course. Adults staff the first responding ambulance during school hours. These volunteers are fondly called “day ladies” however a corps of men is also actively involved. Adults may also serve as crew chief during evening duties and are the Supervisor in the fly car 24/7, 365 days.  Adult Advisors play a role in mentoring and guidance of young adults in day to day operating duties.
