COMMUNITY TRAINING

Darien has been recognized by the Connecticut Department of Public Health as a “HEARTSafe Community” since 2009.  Post 53 is an active partner with Hands for Life training around Fairfield County and we host several Hands for Life events throughout the year.  HEARTSafe award guidelines require training 50 citizens in CPR.  Post 53 certified over 250 individuals in AED/CPR last year alone. Email [email protected] for more information.  In just 15 minutes, you can learn to save a life!

Post 53 also hosts Stop the Bleed training to help Darien citizens gain the ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding and intervene effectively.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

When it is safe to do so, Post 53 offers ambulance tours, 911 talks and safety presentations to youth groups and community organizations.  We send an ambulance and crew to visit preschools, elementary and middle schools to explain our role in the community and how we help the sick and injured. An ambulance show-n-tell is included and emergency medical technicians will demonstrate some of the equipment on board the ambulance.

Post 53 members also enjoy sharing their knowledge and introducing the community to Post and what they do. Children can see the ambulance at events such as the Memorial Day Food Fair in the spring and the annual Post Haunted House in the fall.

STANDBY MEDICAL SERVICES

Post 53 works with our local businesses and organizations to provide event standby services tailored to your event. From football and hockey games, to concerts and festivals, to road races and marathons, we can provide the staff and equipment needed to cover your event.

THE MEMORIAL DAY FOOD FAIR AND COMMUNITY CELEBRATION

The Post 53 Annual Memorial Day Food Fair at Tilly Pond Park is a day of celebration and excitement for the Town of Darien. Post 53 members work year-round to prepare for this day of food, live entertainment, games, ambulance tours, and a silent auction. The famous food tents include food from local businesses including Palmer’s market, Smokey Joe’s, Fisherman’s Net, The Goose and Michael Joseph’s. The Darien tradition raises money to support our operating expenses related to patient care, our continuous training as well as our community training including Hands only CPR and Stop the Bleed classes.
